Privacy policy – kiwiracingbets

An information site about racing and betting in New Zealand needs little personal information, and kiwiracingbets collects only that. The Privacy Act 2020 governs, through its information privacy principles in section 22.

The responsible agency

Responsibility for personal information collected through kiwiracingbets rests with the body running the site. Its name, address and e-mail address are available at kiwiracingbets.com, which is also the channel for every privacy question.

Information collected

Opening a page makes the server write a log entry with the IP address, date and time, the address requested, the volume of data sent, the referring page and the type of browser. Logs serve security and the detection of abuse; after 90 days they are deleted or cut back until they no longer point to a person. A message to the editors adds a name, an e-mail address and the message text, used only for the reply. No reader accounts, deposits or bets exist on the site, so payment details and identity documents are never collected.

Why it is collected

Purposes are lawful ones tied to running the site: keeping it working and safe, answering messages and, after a choice in the cookie banner, measuring the audience (IPP 1). People are told what is collected and why (IPP 3), and use stays within those purposes (IPP 10). No automated decision-making or profiling takes place.

Providers and transfers abroad

Nothing is sold. Service providers that host the site, deliver its content and handle e-mail receive some information, as do public authorities where the law requires. If a provider keeps information outside New Zealand, disclosure happens only when comparable safeguards bind the recipient or the person has been told and agrees, as IPP 12 requires.

Security and retention

Reasonable safeguards guard against loss and misuse (IPP 5). Retention lasts as long as the purpose demands (IPP 9): server logs up to 90 days, and correspondence until the matter is closed plus the time needed to meet any claim. A notifiable privacy breach, one that has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, is reported to the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected.

Access and correction

Anyone may ask to see the information held about them (IPP 6) and to have it corrected (IPP 7). The answer comes as soon as reasonably practicable and within 20 working days of the request at the latest (section 40).

Complaints

A person who thinks their privacy has been breached may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
